Ignacio Sarmiento-Barbieri BITSS CatalystEconomics

Ignacio Sarmiento-Barbieri is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Economics and Affiliated Professors at the Center for Research and Formation in Artificial Intelligence (CINFONIA) at the University de Los Andes. Before joining Los Andes, he was a postdoctoral research fellow in data science in applied microeconomics at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications in Illinois, USA. Ignacio holds a Ph.D. and MS in economics and an MS in Statistics from the University of Illinois. His research interests are on applied economics focused on urban, public economics, and the use of big data and machine learning econometrics. In particular, his interest is in the provision of public goods, with an emphasis on crime and discrimination, in cities around the world.
