Training Colleagues on Research Transparency and Reproducibility in Siaya County Metascience (Methods and Archival Science)

Eric Otieno

This initiative, Educating Peers on Research Openness and Reproducibility in Siaya County, aims to enhance open science methods among teachers in Kenya. Even with global progress in transparency and reproducibility, uptake in resource-limited areas such as Siaya is still low, which weakens the reliability and influence of local academic work. In a two-day immersive workshop, attendees will receive training on pre-registration, replication, ethical data management, and utilizing open-source tools like OSF, GitHub, and R Markdown. The initiative will produce freely available training resources, such as a Siaya County Open Science Guidebook, to adapt global best practices to local situations. A train-the-trainers model and a peer-support network will promote sustainability and create a ripple effect within organizations. The project seeks to stimulate lasting change by developing local capacity, increasing the prominence of research originating from Siaya, and supporting the wider BITSS goal of improving transparency and reproducibility in the social sciences.
