Jose Manuel Magallanes is an Associate Professor at the Department of Social Science at Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru (PUCP), Visiting Associate Professor at the Evans School of Public Policy at the University of Washington, and a Senior Data Science Fellow at the University of Washington eScience Institute.

Professor Magallanes is an interdisciplinary scholar, having a BSc in Computer Science and a PhD in Psychology (Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos), a MA in Public Management (PUCP), and a PhD in Computational Social Science from George Mason University, where he is an affiliate faculty at the Center for Social Complexity.

Jose Manuel’s main research activities combine the use of computational and data science approaches to understand complex social phenomena in public policy and governance. His work includes topics such as climate change, electoral geography, multidimensional measurement of state performance and quality of democracy, text analysis in political campaigns, as well as behavior of legislative networks. His work makes use of different computational tools to ensure reproducibility in code execution, data storage, visualization, referencing, as well as document generation.
